Looking back at 2015
“Leap and the net will appear"
Every year is unique in some way or other, with ups and downs, challenges and joys.
This year in particular has been very special to me.
At the start of 2015 I promised myself one thing, that no matter what I would not allow fear to stop me from doing anything! For some silly reason I have always been paranoid about sharing my photography. “What will people think? Am I good enough? Will I annoy anyone by sharing it? Who am I with little experience to post my work?” In an attempt to counteract all these shadows of doubt I decided I was going to work against that negative voice, and embrace the positive one, the one which was passionate and hungry, and said; "do more, try more, share your work, put yourself out there."
I wanted 2015 to be a year about firsts, about taking risks, facing my fears, rising up to the challenge, meeting new people and taking my photography to the next level. It also coincided with a year of getting engaged, then married, and also turning THIRTY… so just a little bit hectic!
Working full time means that I only get weekends to shoot, which also means little time to catch up with friends and often sacrificing on other activities. So reviewing the year is always exciting because it’s a little satisfying to see that hard work pays off.
So here we go… this is my year in review:
DID A SHOOT FOR BEWARE THE YOUTH - AN EXPRESSIVE THEATRE PRODUCTION
DID A SMALL SERIES TITLED "PINK" TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT BREAST CANCER
MET WITH SOME VERY INTERESTING PEOPLE AND SHOT SOME DEVELOPING MODELS FOR LEADING AGENCIES INCLUDING CHADWICK AND VIVIEN
GOT SOAKING WET DOING MY FIRST SELF PORTRAIT IN MOUNT MACEDON
SHOT AND ASSISTED AT SOME AMAZING WEDDINGS WITH BEAUTIFUL COUPLES
GOT MARRIED AND SPENT SOME QUALITY FAMILY TIME
ORGANISED MY FIRST MEETUP AND MET WITH AMAZINGLY TALENTED PHOTOGRAPHERS INCLUDING ROB WOODCOX, DAVID TALLEY, NATHAN MILNER, IZZIE AUSTIN, KIARA ROSE AND GENEVIEVE WALKER
HAD A 30TH BIRTHDAY TO REMEMBER!
FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER FOR SUBURBIA AN AWARD WINNING FRINGE FESTIVAL THEATRE PRODUCTION
HAD LOTS OF FUN WITH SMOKE BOMBS
AND FINALLY.... WENT ON MANY, MANY TRAVEL ADVENTURES...
So there it is. Looking back I can’t help but feel absolute gratitude for the year I’ve had, and excited for the year ahead. Here’s to many more adventures. 2016 is the year I want to:
- Complete a series
- Feature on a magazine
- Go on many more adventures
- Do an underwater shoot
- Feature in an exhibition
- Plan/Organise an instameet/ photography meetup
- Do a portrait project
- Refine my style
- Work and assist alongside other great photographers
- Continue working hard, and step out of my comfort zone!
To all those who have made it to the end, Thank you so much for supporting me, and always believing in me. You know who you are! 😃
To all those who are just starting out, and have the same thoughts I did at the start of the year...well then it's time to crush those thoughts!
